A cheery welcome and happy new year

Artist statement... at this point in time I feel most comfortable to describe it more - as being on a continuing journey - one that's ever evolving, ever changing, never static, moved and influenced by circumstances and inspired by the natural world along with a drive to explore and experiment with as many mediums as possible!

Influences
Growing up on a small wind swept island where the natural elements and the freedom to roam, exploring shorelines, experiencing vast limitless horizons have all left an indelible mark. This strong connection with nature inspires me to create artworks that can be either factual in visual representation or abstract in form. Ultimately my works convey a connection with the natural world and our human experiences of it.

'To create ones own world takes courage' - Georgia O'Keeffe.

Creating art gives me the amazing opportunity to go on a journey of adventure into the realms of both the known and unknown worlds: Worlds that know no bounds or limitations. My artworks are also a response to situations I encounter; Art illuminates, it touches and brings to life, it can capture some forgotten moment in time. It gives opportunity to be touched, it stirs the senses of those often unconscious, overlooked moments that are an integral part of the everyday lives we experience. These attributes I strive to convey through art.

I explore ways of creating work through a variety of techniques and mediums such as acrylic paint, watercolour, mixed mediums, collagraph's and linocut prints.

The experimental process through these art mediums is important to me, it is something I thrive upon. Because the variance of materials encourages me to go beyond my comfort zone when creating a composition. And it is influential in challenging me to explore new dimensions and expressively create new possibilities. Whilst also simultaneously drawing on the natural world for inspiration.

Being inspired by the natural environment leads me to consider its impact upon man and vice-versa - man's impact upon it.

John Burrows timely quote ...'I go to nature to be soothed and healed and have my senses put in order'... resonates with me and seems relevant in an era of fast paced life and the disconnect from the natural world that can be experienced.

The residue left after gaining a Distinction in Art and Design 2011, followed by gaining my a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2014, has encouraged me to remain experimental in my approach and to encompass theme based works which inspire and influence my creativity.
